Detachment members have responded to 37 complaints/calls for assistance over the past two weeks.
2010/26628 - After a yearlong investigation, The RCMP executed a search warrant in a newer home at 2115 Mountainview Ave in Lumby. Police had long suspected that this was an active marijuana grow-op and it was confirmed when we entered the house and located some 1000 marijuana plants in varying stages of growth. The entire basement of the residence has been expertly converted for the sole purpose of producing multiple marijuana harvests per year. A 36 year old male was found sleeping the house when police entered. In addition to the drug charges, the male will also be charged with Theft of Hydro since an electrical by-pass was in place. The residence is no longer fit for habitation and was posted under the Lumby drug remediation by-law. It will have to be brought up to building codes before it can again be occupied.
This was a new home in an upscale, family oriented neighborhood of Lumby that was entirely devoted to marijuana production. The inherent dangers are many. We spoke to neighbors after the fact who long suspected something was not right with the address but did not alert police. I have emphasized many times, that if there is anything suspicious about a residence in your area, please give us a call. If something doesn’t appear right, it usually isn’t!
2012/1934 - On February 2nd, a routine computer check of the license plate of a vehicle eastbound on Hwy 6 revealed that the plate was stolen. The vehicle was pulled over by police and the driver admitted to taking the plate. In addition, he didn’t have insurance on the Chevy Lumina and he didn’t have a driver’s license. After some $874.00 in fines, the vehicle was also impounded for a week. The driver will, of course, be responsible for the towing and storage fees as well.
2012/1838 - There was a hit and run of a parked vehicle in front of the Crossroads Learning Centre during the morning of February 1st. The 2007 grey, Volkswagen Rabbit is owned by one of the instructors and suffered significant damage to the front end. The culprit drove off without stopping. If anyone witnessed the hit & run that morning, could they contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
