Vernon Grow Operation Shut Down

Local News

A search warrant has produced a bounty for police in the Vernon area.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says officers from the Community Response Unit executed the search warrant for a grow operation in the 4900 block of Old Kamloops Road Friday.

“Our officers seized 328 plants in various stages of development along with growing equipment,” he says, adding that the house was posted under the Vernon drug bylaw -  ultimately forbidding occupation of the residence until it’s deemed safe.

Police say no one was located in the home at the time of the warrant, but officers are planning to make an arrest in the coming days.

The investigation -  part of the Marijuana Grow Initiative, encompasses the RCMP’s national strategy to combat grow ops and the organized crime groups that operate them in this town.

“The RCMP are very concerned about the serious public safety threat that marijuana grow operations pose to our communities and the families that live close by,” says Molendyk.
