Two Kamloops men were expected to appear in court today following a wild Friday night in Vernon.
Police say they attempted to stop a 1993 Mazda pickup in and around 30th Avenue at around 2:30 a.m, but when the driver of the truck responded by driving through a red light in an attempt to elude cops, officers followed at a safe distance.
"Our officer discontinued any attempts to stop the vehicle and instead followed as it headed towards Armstrong where our rural member set up a spike belt," says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
Two occupants ran out of the vehicle and onto Royal York Golf course, where both suspects were later tracked down by an eager K-9 unit.
Molendyk says officers were able to identify the driver and later found crack cocaine on the passenger – who was also found to be breaching probation conditions.
Both men are expected to face charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of drugs and breach of probation.
