Photo: VernonCentral staffPolice are looking for witnesses after a serious accident this morning sent one man to Kelowna General Hospital at around 7:00 a.m.
Officers say a 27 year old Vernon resident was left with serious injuries after the Chevrolet truck the man was driving southbound on 97 made contact with an unloaded tractor trailer unit near Bailey Road, just south of Vernon.
RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the pickup left the highway and rolled down the eastside embankment.
Police aren't sure, however, what role the tractor trailer unit played in the near-tragedy and are asking witnesses to step forward as officers attempt to piece together the events that lead to the collision.
"The preliminary investigation had determined that a northbound black tractor trailer unit was an unloaded flat deck, the driver of which has since come forward," he says.
"The driver of the semi told police a middle aged man believed to be driving a Suzuki car stopped and spoke to him right after the collision and then departed the area," added Molendyk.
The semi's lone occupant later stopped voluntarily to speak to officers who have since seized the unit for further investigation.
RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision to call 250.545.7171 and quote file number SED-2012-417.
