It appears our file count since New Year's has decreased along with the temperatures as police have responded to fewer calls than normal. This is a good thing because it reflects a decrease in criminal activity and allows us to focus on other priorities such as traffic enforcement and drug investigations.
The entire Christmas/New Year holiday period was also comparatively quiet for local police. We dealt with two drinking drivers in the 'warn' range but no one was charged with impaired driving in this area.
We have responded to several minor traffic accidents and driving complaints over the past three weeks. Fortunately, none of the accidents have resulted in serious injury despite sometimes severe winter driving conditions. I think this speaks positively of area driver's who are adapting to the varying road conditions.
2012/1005 - We had a cell phone turned into the Detachment. It was located in the area of J.W. Inglis school. The phone is locked so we can't access the owner's details. If you've lost your cell phone sometime in the past month (and can describe it) come see us. As with all found property, we retain it for 90 days after which time it is disposed of.
2011/ 26546 - We recently has another local senior scammed by fraud artists. In this case the victim did provide his bank account information after he was told he had won a large sum of money. The 'toll free' number provided originated from the island of Jamaica. Fortunately, no thefts have occurred from the bank account and it has now been closed.
Police regularly alert the public to all the innovative ways that 'scammers' attempt to part you and your money. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
2011/ 21956 - Back in October we began investigating a complaint of a motorcycle theft from a shed on Shuswap Ave. It took a couple of months, but information did finally begin to come together. On January 4th we executed a search warrant at a storage location in Vernon and located the stolen motorcycle. Since then, the persons responsible have left the area. Police will be submitting charges and requested a warrant for the arrest of thieves.
