Snow Biker to See Charges

Local News

It was a bad day in more ways than one for an unlicensed Vernon motorist this past Monday.

Police say an officer was driving northbound on Pleasant Valley Road near Silverstar Road when he noticed there was no license plate on a small motorcycle that passed.

The officer activated his lights and pulled the bike over into a nearby parking lot where the operator of the bike advised that he believed he did not need to register or insure the bike because of its 49cc engine.

"To add to the driver's problems, his driver's license was found to have been cancelled in 2009," says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

Molendyk said as the man was in the process of being issued a ticket for no insurance and no license, the officer noticed a strong odor of liquor on the driver's breath and administered a breathalyzer, which the man failed.

Police say the driver, a 47 year old man, will now face charges of impaired driving in addition to his tickets, although the excitement didn't end there.

"While police were dealing with him they discovered he was in possession of marijuana as well," says Molendyk who added, "it was just not this man's day".
