Phantom Foodie Visits...Monashee's Bar and Grill

MonasheesLogoAnother lunch outing took me into downtown Vernon and this time I headed to Monashee’s Bar and Grill. I think it’s more renowned for a place to go on a weekend night, but it also makes a great place to stop for lunch. For those who haven’t been inside, it is very open and would be a great place to bring a large group. They have a pool table and at night time they clear some tables for a dance floor, complete with DJ. What some may not know is that they usually always have a great lunch special.

On this visit I took advantage of the daily special which was a Chicken, Bacon, Lettuce, & Tomato Wrap with a choice of soup, salad or fries. I have had their fries before and know they are your typical pub fries (which are good) so I thought I would try the Ginger/Carrot soup. It came out piping hot, which I love, but if you are not a huge fan of ginger or only like it a little, you would not want to try this soup. I love ginger so I thought it was good but almost a bit overpowering. It would be an acquired taste and I might not order that again. The wrap however was absolutely delicious! This wrap had just the right amount of bacon, tomato, cheese, lettuce, and jammed full of so much chicken that it was literally falling out. I hate when you order a wrap and its main ingredient is the lettuce to fill it up!

The service was fast and friendly, but I would hope it would have been as there were only a few tables with people in there! If you are looking for fast, friendly service with a great selection of pub food, including pizza (they claim to be the best in Vernon), this would be a good place to hit up for lunch or dinner. Definitely worthy of a blip on your food radar the next time you ask yourself, “Where should we go to eat?”. Over all I would rate this lunch trip as a “pretty-good” and I would go back again!

Editor’s note; If you are so inclined, they have a smoker-friendly outdoor patio with overhead heater that is open year round. It’s a great place to watch the diversity of people enjoying downtown Vernon and in the summer they open up the retractable roof so you can catch some rays. They also have a totally open, non-smoking summer patio complete with misters for when the mercury rises. Amazingly enough, these misters can lower the ambient temperature about ten degrees.

The Phantom Foodie?

If you are at all like me you sometimes struggle to pick a place to dine. You may always stick to "the usual", maybe not your favorite place, but you know that the food, service and atmosphere will be okay. Well I am here to help the best I can, by going to places for you and giving you a heads up on what to expect. Everyone craves something different and I hope to open your eyes on maybe a few places you haven't been to or haven't visited in sometime. For myself I enjoy the experience of dinning out because it means I don't have to cook or clean, and it usually means I get to visit and laugh with friends and family. So I hope you enjoy my dining experiences, and to remind you these are strictly my opinions and you can take them or leave them! Happy eats where ever you may go!
